Based on a true story that had been published in 2014, Spike Lee takes this opportunity by the reins in order to introduce the Afro-American character of Ron Stallworth on the cinema screens. Jordan Peele, the director of the Academy Award winning horror movie, ‘Get Out’, released in 2017, and turned out to be a major success, had introduced the film’s idea to Spike Lee. Washington thought that the movie was going to be more like a play-off, probably something similar to acting on a skit when Spike Lee first told him about the idea. Spike Lee, however, told him to get Ron Stallworth’s genius and read it in order to better understand the character that Washington would play undoubtedly.

Washington claimed that he was intimidated at first when he thought that he would be playing a real life person. He said that he had read the book and had done his best in order to conduct research about his character and the Ku Klux Klan. Spike Lee has however, added his own spice and magic in order to create the movie fictionally. After having met RonStallworth in person, and assessing the importance of his real life Ku Klux Klan membership card, Washington claims that he understood how special the portrayal of his character was to the author.

While the movie is all about categorizing the cast in accordance to the 1970s era, much importance could be shed towards the whole cinematography and the costumes of the actors as well.  The Ron Stallworth Leather Coat has made waves in the market ever since the movie hit the cinemas, and so has Patricia Dumas’ shiny jacket that can also be seen adorned by Laura Harrier almost throughout the movie.

According to Washington, he was incredibly grateful to Spike Lee for having him given this opportunity in a biopic that not only was important to America, but also discussed the foundation and structure of the nation. In order to get into the author’s character, a John David Washington BlackkKlansman Leather Coat might not be the only thing that was required, but it was a lot more.

Washington said that while this movie would be seen as a comic satire, it will make you angry and probably make you cry at the same time. The movie is all about America’s current bitter situation, and with Terrence’s melodic number haunting the train of thoughts, very little is required to make you realize that all of this is nothing but harsh reality faced by a man in the 70s.
